Pool Cage Cleaning in Naples — Why Pool Cages Get Dirtier Faster

A pool cage faces three contamination sources at once — and that’s why pool cages dirty faster than any other screened structure on a Naples home. Pool chemistry residue evaporates off the water and condenses on cage screens and aluminum frame, leaving a film that traps everything else. Salt-air mineral deposits (especially on coastal homes in Marco Island, Naples Park, and beachside Bonita) accumulate on aluminum joints where condensation collects and dries. Standard outdoor contamination — pollen, dust, biological growth, tree drop — adds to all of it. Each source needs different chemistry to address. We treat all three.

Most operators “clean” pool cages by rinsing them with a hose. That removes loose dust, but doesn’t touch the chemistry residue, doesn’t address mineral deposits, and leaves the corner mildew alone. The cage looks better for a week or two, then it’s back to where it started. A real pool cage cleaning takes apart the contamination layer-by-layer — chemistry pre-treatment to break the residue bond, mild acid-based treatment for mineral deposits at frame joints, and dedicated mildew chemistry for the corners and ceiling sections where humidity stalls. None of that is fast, and none of it is what the rinse-and-go operators are doing.

Why Pool Cages Need Annual Cleaning

Most outdoor structures in Naples need cleaning every 1-2 years. Pool cages need it annually — sometimes more often on coastal homes — because the three contamination sources stack on top of each other. Skip a year and the next cleaning takes twice as long because the chemistry residue has hardened into the screens, the mineral deposits have built up at frame joints, and the corner mildew has spread. Annual cleaning keeps the cage in maintenance mode instead of restoration mode.

Pool cages are also taller than typical lanais — usually 12-20 feet at the apex, sometimes higher on two-story homes — which means cleaning requires extension equipment, telescoping wands, and ladder work that most generalists don’t carry or refuse. We work pool cages routinely. Same equipment, same crew, same approach we use across the rest of the portfolio.

If the pool cage encloses a lanai (most do in Naples), the lanai surfaces — floor, ceiling, kickplates — get cleaned at the same time. See the lanai cleaning page for the lanai-specific surfaces. We quote both as one combined project — costs less than booking them separately and the crew is on-site once.

Three Contamination Sources. Three Treatments.

Pool cages dirty differently than lanais because of the pool. Each contamination source needs its own chemistry approach.

Pool Chemistry Residue

What it is: Chlorine, salt (on saltwater pools), and pool chemicals evaporate off the water surface and condense on cage screens and aluminum frame as they dry. Creates an oily film that traps pollen and dust.

How we treat: Surfactant-based chemistry pre-treatment to break the chemistry-residue bond. Low-pressure rinse to lift it off without driving residue deeper into the mesh. The film is invisible until it’s gone — most owners don’t realize it was there.

Salt-Air Mineral Deposits

What it is: White or chalky buildup at horizontal aluminum frame joints, especially on coastal homes. Salt-air condensation collects in joint corners, evaporates, and leaves mineral residue. Builds up year after year if not addressed.

How we treat: Mild acid-based chemistry applied directly to deposits. Wand work at frame joints with proper distance from screen mesh. Vinegar isn’t strong enough — we use commercial mineral remover designed for aluminum.

Mildew & Biological Growth

What it is: Black or green growth in cage corners, ceiling sections, and shaded panels where humidity stalls. Pool cages have higher ambient humidity than typical outdoor structures, which accelerates mildew.

How we treat: Soft wash chemistry — same sodium hypochlorite approach as roofs and house exteriors. Kills mildew at the root so it doesn’t regrow within months. Telescoping wand work for the high corners and apex sections.

Why Choose 321

Why Naples Has Trusted Us Since 1992

34 Years. Same Family.

We've been cleaning Naples roofs since 1992. We're not a franchise. We're not a national chain that bought a local name. We're the same Corcoran family operation that started here three decades ago — same number, same standard, same crew.

5,000+ Naples Roofs

There isn't a tile profile, paver pattern, or stain type in this market we haven't seen. That experience matters because the wrong chemistry damages tile. The wrong pressure strips finishes. We know what works on what — because we've done it 5,000 times.

Soft Wash, Done Right

Soft wash uses chemistry, not pressure, to kill the algae and lichen at the root. That's why our cleans last. Pressure washing roofs is faster but ruins them — voids warranties, displaces granules, lifts tiles. We do it the right way, every time.

A Note from the Owner
"

I've cleaned roofs in Naples since before HOAs cared about black streaks. Back then we used pressure washers because that's all there was. Now we soft wash because that's what works without damaging tile. 34 years in the same business teaches you the difference.

Same family. Same number. Same standard since 1992.

Pool Cage Cleaning Pairs Best With…

Most pool cage jobs touch at least one related surface. Bundling makes sense logistically and the services interact — cage cleaning runoff lands on the lanai floor, pool deck pavers usually need attention at the same interval, and house wash includes the back-of-house wall the cage attaches to.

Pool Cage Cleaning FAQ

How often should a Naples pool cage be cleaned?
Annually for most homes — sometimes more often on coastal properties (Marco Island, beachside Naples, Naples Park) where salt-air mineral deposits accumulate faster. Pool cages dirty faster than typical screened structures because of the three contamination sources stacking — pool chemistry, salt air, and standard outdoor contamination. Skipping a year doubles the next cleaning’s required time.

Will pressure washing damage my cage screens?
It can if pressure is too high or the wand is too close. We don’t pressure wash cage screens directly — same approach as lanais. Pre-treat with chemistry, then rinse at low pressure with the wand at the right distance from the mesh. We’ve cleaned thousands of cage screens without a tear. The damage we see on “ruined cages” was almost always from someone aiming high pressure at the mesh up close.

What about the white mineral deposits at the aluminum joints?
Those are salt-air mineral buildup — chemical residue from condensation that collects, dries, and accumulates over years. Water alone won’t remove them. Vinegar isn’t strong enough. We use a commercial mild acid-based mineral remover designed for aluminum. Applied directly at frame joints with careful technique to avoid touching screen mesh. Most operators skip this step entirely. We don’t.

Do you reach the high corners and apex of two-story pool cages?
Yes — we carry telescoping wands and extension equipment specifically for tall cages. The apex (peak) and upper corners on two-story cages routinely run 18-22 feet from the deck surface. We reach all of it without using the screen or frame for support. The cleaners who skip the upper sections do it because they don’t have the equipment, not because the cleaning isn’t possible.

Will the cleaning chemistry affect my pool water?
Not in any meaningful way. We work with the pool covered (or scheduled around a service window) and rinse runoff is directed away from the water surface. The chemistry concentrations involved are far below pool-relevant levels even before dilution and rinse. We’ve done thousands of pool cage cleanings without incident on pool water chemistry. If you have specific concerns, mention during the on-site quote and we can adjust scheduling around your pool service rotation.

Can you clean the pool cage and the lanai inside it at the same visit?
Yes — that’s the typical bundle. Most Naples pool cages enclose a lanai (floor, ceiling, kickplates), and we clean both as one combined project. Crew on-site once means lower total cost than booking them separately. If your lanai also has pavers as the floor surface, paver cleaning can be included as well. See the lanai cleaning and paver cleaning pages for the related services.
