Paver Cleaning in Naples — Done Without Damaging the Surface

Most “ruined” pavers we get called to fix were cleaned aggressively by someone else. The pavers ended up with etching, dish-out marks where the wand was held too long in one spot, or opened joints where the pressure blew out the joint sand and started shifting the pavers themselves. Naples pavers can absolutely be cleaned bright — but the method matters more than most homeowners realize.

A pressure washer at full PSI on concrete or clay pavers is too aggressive. The wand etches the surface texture, opens the top layer of cement, and pulls color out. The pavers come out looking clean for a few weeks — then they look duller than they did before, because the protective surface layer is gone. The right approach is calibrated pressure with the right tip, the right distance, and chemistry that loosens dirt before the water hits. Done correctly, pavers come out looking like the day they were installed without losing anything off the surface.

The Three Things Aggressive Cleaning Damages

(1) Surface texture — high-PSI etching strips the top layer of cement, leaving pavers looking duller after they “clean.” (2) Joint sand — too much pressure blows the sand out of the joints, which means pavers shift and water gets underneath. (3) Color — concrete pavers have pigment in the top layer; aggressive cleaning removes pigment along with dirt. We clean with enough pressure to remove the dirt and not enough to remove anything else.

We clean four paver surfaces routinely: driveways (the bulk of our work — concrete pavers, most often Tremron, Belgard, or Pavestone), pool decks (often softer pavers with smoother finish, needing gentler pressure), walkways and pathways (variable conditions depending on sun and tree cover), and patios (often older installations with more weathering). Each surface gets a different approach — different tip, different distance, different chemistry.

A paver cleaning is also the right time to do joint re-sanding if the joints are looking thin or weeds are coming through. Cleaning removes whatever sand is left in the joints, so we usually re-sand at the end of the cleaning job — costs less than booking the two services separately, and locks the pavers in place to prevent the shifting that aggressive cleaning causes. If you’re planning to seal the pavers afterward, cleaning + re-sand + sealing can all happen in the same project sequence.

Four Paver Surfaces. Four Approaches.

Same general process, but the pressure, tip selection, and chemistry change per surface. Here’s what we do on each.

Driveways

What we see: Tire tracks, oil stains, grease drops, embedded dirt, occasional algae in shaded sections.

How we clean: Surface cleaner attachment for the open areas (faster, more uniform than a wand), wand work along edges and around features. Degreaser pre-treatment for oil spots. Standard PSI for concrete pavers, lower for softer brands.

Pool Decks

What we see: Sunscreen residue, algae from constant moisture, mineral deposits from pool chemistry, traffic patterns.

How we clean: Gentler pressure than driveways — pool deck pavers are often softer or have smoother finishes that show etching faster. Algae chemistry pre-treatment, then careful rinse. Pay attention to drains and pool coping during work.

Walkways & Pathways

What we see: Variable conditions — sun-faded sections look different from shaded sections. Often more biological growth than driveways because of intermittent moisture.

How we clean: Adjust approach per section. Surface cleaner where width allows, wand for narrow paths. Pre-treat any algae or moss. Even result across the whole walkway, not just clean-in-spots.

Patios

What we see: Often older installations with more weathering. Mix of biological growth, food and drink spills, furniture marks, embedded dirt.

How we clean: Gentler approach for older pavers — they’re more porous and more sensitive to pressure than newer concrete pavers. Often need degreaser pre-treatment and longer chemistry dwell time. Patios usually pair well with re-sanding afterward.

Why Choose 321

Why Naples Has Trusted Us Since 1992

34 Years. Same Family.

We've been cleaning Naples roofs since 1992. We're not a franchise. We're not a national chain that bought a local name. We're the same Corcoran family operation that started here three decades ago — same number, same standard, same crew.

5,000+ Naples Roofs

There isn't a tile profile, paver pattern, or stain type in this market we haven't seen. That experience matters because the wrong chemistry damages tile. The wrong pressure strips finishes. We know what works on what — because we've done it 5,000 times.

Soft Wash, Done Right

Soft wash uses chemistry, not pressure, to kill the algae and lichen at the root. That's why our cleans last. Pressure washing roofs is faster but ruins them — voids warranties, displaces granules, lifts tiles. We do it the right way, every time.

A Note from the Owner
"

I've cleaned roofs in Naples since before HOAs cared about black streaks. Back then we used pressure washers because that's all there was. Now we soft wash because that's what works without damaging tile. 34 years in the same business teaches you the difference.

Same family. Same number. Same standard since 1992.

Most Paver Cleanings Pair With…

Cleaning pavers always removes joint sand. If your joints are already thin or you’re seeing weeds come through, this is the right time to re-sand. If you’re considering sealing, cleaning is the required first step. We can do all three in one project sequence — usually saves time and money compared to booking each service separately.

What Naples Says

What Naples Says About Our Paver Work

"Pool deck pavers had been sealed wrong by the previous company — peeling, yellowing, hazy. 321 stripped it, re-sanded, and resealed with a wet-look that still pops three years later. Knew what they were doing."

David W.
Naples · Paver Sealing

"Driveway looked dead. 321 cleaned, re-sanded the joints, and sealed it. Looks like a brand-new install. Neighbors keep asking who did it. That's the best review I can give."

Patricia L.
Bonita Springs · Paver Cleaning

"Other quotes were vague — 'we'll seal it.' Jonathan walked through wet-look vs natural finish, brand of sealer, drying time, what to do if it rains. The job matched exactly what he described."

Paver Cleaning FAQ

How often should pavers be cleaned in Naples?
Driveways and pool decks usually need cleaning every 1-2 years in this climate. Pavers in shade or near tree cover often need it sooner because of biological growth. Patios and walkways with less direct exposure can sometimes go 2-3 years. We can tell during the on-site quote whether your pavers are at the right interval and whether re-sanding or sealing should be paired with the cleaning.

Will cleaning damage my pavers?
Not when done correctly. The damage we see on “ruined” pavers comes from aggressive cleaning — too much pressure, wand held too close, or held too long in one spot. Our approach is calibrated pressure with chemistry pre-treatment, surface cleaner attachments for open areas, and careful technique. We’ve cleaned 5,000+ paver surfaces in this market without etching, dish-out marks, or pigment loss.

Can you remove oil stains from my driveway?
Most of them, yes. Recent oil stains come out almost completely with degreaser pre-treatment and standard cleaning. Older or deeper stains sometimes leave a faint shadow even after the best treatment — we’ll tell you during the on-site quote what we expect to be able to remove vs. what’s likely permanent. Sealing afterward (separate service) can mask any remaining shadow.

Should I re-sand the joints after cleaning?
Almost always, yes. Pressure washing pavers (a required prep step) removes the existing joint sand. Without re-sanding, pavers can shift, weeds come through more easily, and the joints look unfinished. Polymeric joint sand re-installation locks the pavers in place and looks much better. We typically pair cleaning with re-sanding because doing them together costs less than booking them separately.

My pavers are already sealed. Can you still clean them?
Yes — we adjust the approach based on the existing sealer. If the sealer is intact, we clean gentler so we don’t damage the sealer film. If the sealer is failing or peeling, cleaning is usually the first step in a strip + re-seal project (separate service). We’ll evaluate the existing sealer during the on-site quote and tell you what we recommend.

How long does a paver cleaning take?
Most driveways take 2-4 hours depending on size and condition. Pool decks usually 2-3 hours. Larger patios can take 4-6 hours. We use surface cleaner attachments for the open areas (faster and more uniform than a wand) and wand work for edges and details. If we’re also re-sanding or sealing, the full project is usually completed across 1-2 days depending on weather.
